annotation of time-based media

The project continued the work of the research group on time-based audio and video annotation. This long-term work has been embedded into the research group's working practices: recording video and audio of events and annotating them to make them more useful and accessible in the research work.

seminar annotation

Seminar annotationThe aim was to make the Media Lab's 10th anniversary seminar discussions available on the Internet in an annotated format, almost directly after the discussion had ended. The whole video of the discussion was divided into shorter clips, with each of their content briefly summarized for easy reference. This required transcribers to annotate the discussion as it was broadcast, essentially finishing their work as the discussion closed.

lost in transcription

Four sistersIn this project, the attempt was to find simple and concrete ways to improve the documentation of actions within Arki research group, as well as with its partners. The focus is on the efficiency and speed of producing documentation material, as well as on its usability in terms of access, browsing and further use. The production procedure will be taken into consideration as a whole so that its parts can better be developed to support rather than to adapt to each other. Simple and practical solutions based on the existing facilities will be emphasized but longer-term solutions will also be taken into account. This project didn't pass conceptual design stage.

text-based video navigation

Self documentationThis was a quick sketch and proof-of-concept of integrating the technology developed in the collaborative video-editing tools and the annotation tools. We created a quick prototype, which provides a transcription text as an UI to navigate a video, switch the position of the video on the timeline by clicking on different chapters in the text and skip to next or go back to previous chapter with the links under the player.
